Skagit Land Trust applied for and obtained funds from the Coastal Protection fund to purchase 450 acres of tidal property in South Fidalgo Bay for the Washington Department of Ecology. The property, now managed by the Washington Department of Natural Resources as the Fidalgo Bay Aquatic Reserve, is restricted from development by a conservation easement held by the Trust, the first of its kind on state land. The easement was completed in December, 1999. This easement was amended under a similar process in 2006 to incorporate an additional 82 acres to the easement.
