Volunteer Opportunity: Utopia Field Trips

Skagit Land Trust is seeking a few enthusiastic environmental educators and volunteers to support kids in some fun outdoor learning experiences at our Utopia Conservation Area this May and June! Our education team will be hosting nine student field trips for second-graders from Sedro-Woolley schools and one Mount Vernon School.

Each field trip features six themed Investigation Stations on the following topics:

  • Beavers
  • Animal Evidence (elk, owls, and others)
  • Seeds and Seed Dispersal
  • Plants, Erosion, and Habitat Restoration
  • Macroinvertibrates
  • Birds and Snags

Volunteers are needed to staff those stations and to help us set the stations up and take them down. Volunteers will present activities and information to small groups of students who will rotate through the stations every 20 minutes. Training on the activities and materials and a site visit to Utopia will take place in April.

Possible field trip dates are as follows:

  • May 1 Big Lake ES
  • May 2 Clear Lake ES
  • May 5 Mary Purcell ES
  • May 8 Central ES
  • May 9 Lyman ES
  • May 22 Immaculate Conception
  • June 2 Evergreen ES
  • June 3 Evergreen ES

(And there is the possibility of one more date, to be determined)

Interested in helping out? Please contact Stacy at stacyd@skagitlandtrust.org with the dates you'd like to volunteer and any station preferences. And please spread the word -- we need lots of volunteers!
