Agricultural Land for Lease

Skagit Land Trust has agricultural land available for lease this year and is accepting offers from interested farmers. Those interested in leasing land can reach out to Regina Wandler, the Stewardship Director, at reginaw@skagitlandtrust.org. Our mission includes the conservation of agricultural land, and we are happy to consider creative lease scenarios, such as work to benefit conservation values on adjacent property (we can always use help mowing!), in lieu of paying rent.

Our currently available agricultural land includes:

  • 30 acres of hayfield in the Guemes Mountain and Valley Conservation Area on Guemes Island, which could be converted to other agriculture (such as row crops). There is a large historic barn on site that we are in the process of stabilizing so it can be used for agricultural purposes. There is also power to the site, a well, and established water rights. This field is within a conservation area and there will be some public access across portions of the area, though we are happy to adjust public access plans to accommodate a farmers needs.

  • 17 acre hay field in the Barney Lake Conservation Area in Mount Vernon. Currently accessed via informal agreement from Gunderson Rd Extension. Soil is silt loam (Skipopa and Bellingham) and site is adjacent to Nookachamps and Trumpeter Creek. May be open to converting field to row crops.

  • 3.5 acre hay field at the Pressentin Ranch Conservation Area on the south side of the Skagit River in Concrete, WA. Accessed via Pressentin Ranch Dr. Soil is fine sandy loam (Larush), and Skagit Land Trust will be controlling some Canadian thistle via mowing and in this field this spring. Pasture was improved (reseeding with a forage mix) a couple of years ago. This smaller field is within a larger conservation area and elk do also utilize the field, so we are happy to consider a no-cost lease to maintain the open area.

  • 5 acre hay field at the Hurn Field Conservation Area on the north side of the Skagit River just west of Concrete, WA. Accessed via Piscatore Lane, a private dirt / gravel road. Pasture was improved (reseeding with a forage mix) a couple of years ago. This smaller field is within a larger conservation area and elk do also utilize the field, so we are happy to consider a no-cost lease in order to maintain the open area.
