 | Kathy Thornburgh, Board President Kathy studied botany and plant ecology at the University of Tennessee and marine ecology at the University of Washington. She has worked as a preserve steward for The Nature Conservancy, a habitat biologist for Alaska Department of Fish and Game, ran a water quality lab for the Tulalip Tribes, and retired after 20 years with Snohomish County working on water quality and environmental monitoring, public education, and habitat stewardship. She is an avid bicyclist and an active Master Gardener. |
 | Kirk Johnson, Board Vice President Retired Senior Planner for Skagit County. Kirk has a degree in political science from Lewis & Clark College, and a Master’s in Public Administration from University of Washington. Previously served on the board of Skagitonians to Preserve Farmland. Kirk has been a member of the Skagit Land Trust Public Policy Committee since 2017, and joined the Board in 2022. |
 | Jim Glackin, Board Member Real Estate Broker, Windermere Real Estate. Member of Skagit County Conservation Futures Committee (Farmland Legacy Program). A graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Jim enjoys hiking & backpacking. He joined the Board in 2016. |
 | Mark Hitchcock, Board Member Retired forestry consultant and resident of Skagit County for more than thirty years. Recipient of degrees in forest science from University of Washington and Yale University. Previously served on boards of Skagit Land Trust and Skagit Conservation District. |
 | Keith Wiggers, Board Member One of three Skagit Land Trust founders. Former president of Skagit Audubon Society. Retired veterinarian. Joined the Board in 1992. |
 | Chris Varela, New Board Member Born and raised in Southern California, Chris now calls Skagit Valley home, where he works as a history teacher in Mount Vernon. He earned a BA in History from CSU San Bernardino and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Social Studies at Ohio University. Passionate about both education and conservation, he has been volunteering with the Skagit Land Trust since 2019 as a land steward and has served on the Development and Outreach Committee since 2021. When not in the classroom or working on conservation efforts, he enjoys spending time outdoors, exploring and appreciating nature. |
 | Denby Lloyd, New Board Member Denby migrated to Alaska for college (biology) and graduate school (oceanography) and was fortunate to spend months at a time in remote field camps and aboard ship in many regions of the state. His career thereafter centered on fishery and natural resource management, ranging from field technician to land use permitter, research biologist to policy analyst, fishery manager to chief executive of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. After 44 years up North, he retired to the Big Island where he and his wife Laurie built a coffee, citrus and cacao farm. More recently they have moved to Anacortes to be closer to kids, grandkids, and other North American wildlife. |
 | Meagan Maillet, New Board Member Meagan Maillet holds a Juris Doctor from New England Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services with Minors in Environmental Studies & Communication from Western Washington University. After finishing law school, Meagan moved back to Mount Vernon to live closer to her family. She now works (remotely) as the Board of Review Staff Attorney for the Massachusetts Department of Labor & Workforce Development. While in Boston, Meagan served as a Pro Bono Attorney for the Volunteer Lawyer’s Project and as a Law Student Advocate for CORI Initiative. Before moving to Boston, Meagan completed Skagit Conservation District’s Watershed Master’s Program and served as Skagit Land Trust’s AmeriCorps volunteer in stewardship. The Trust is excited to welcome Meagan back, now as a Board member! |
