WTA - Little Mountain Work Party

Feb 2017 24

8:30 AM to 3:30 PM
Darville Trail

This is a Washington Trails Association event. If you have questions please contact WTA (info below).

Overview
Help out Mount Vernon Parks and WTA as we work on trail improvements on an important connector leading into Little Mountain Park. A partnership with a private land owner and Skagit Land Trust provides a trail easement into this amazing Park.

About the Area
Aptly named Little Mountain is easily accessible year-round. This 522-acre forested park—just a few miles from Mount Vernon’s downtown area—feels much farther from the city. A narrow road leads to the sub-1,000-foot summit, where Skagit Valley views await. While driving to the top is pleasant, it is far more rewarding to hike.

What to Expect
We'll have fun, work hard and make a difference! No experience is necessary.

Project Description
We will be replacing the decking on some elevated walkways and building some new ones as well. This will involve removing the old wooden decking and replacing it and setting new stringers, blocking and decking on the new sections. This is a great opportunity to learn some new skills! There will also be plenty of general maintenance and trail improvement opportunities as well.

Hiking Information
Our hike to the project site is expected to be 1-3 miles  roundtrip over hilly terrain

Schedule

  • 8:30 AM: Be ready to sign in and meet the crew, rain or shine
  • 8:35 AM: Gather for a safety briefing, then hike to the project site

  • 12:00 PM: Lunch on the trail
  • Afternoon: Consider trying a new task before wrapping up the day's work
