Ecology

This property protects approximately 700 ft. of Chinook Salmon habitat along the Skagit River shoreline. There is mature riparian forest throughout the property, with dominant forest species consisting of grand fir, douglas-fir, and big leaf maple. Common wildlife found here include black bear, bald eagles, deer, and salmonids.

The plant diversity of the riparian forest at Upper Skagit 1 provides habitat for numerous species of wildlife.

Stewardship

Stewardship goals for Upper Skagit 1 are to protect and improve salmon habitat and to remove invasive species from the sight. Invasive species found here include Himalyan blackberry and Canada thistle. Skagit Land Trust has also removed old structures from the site and planted native species in the old driveway with the help of volunteers.
