3rd Friday Stewardship

Aug 2017 18

9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Cumberland Creek

Join Skagit Land Trust at the Cumberland Creek Conservation Area to construct a new trail to view the incredible creek reconnection project that was accomplished in 2015. This unique project -- which some call Skagit's "Little Elwha" project -- re-opened nearly a mile of prime fish habitat that had been lost for more than 80 years.  There are several trails adding up to more than two miles meandering the peninsula, view an oxbow pond or head out to see the mighty river. Check out this great video.

Please join us for a day at Cumberland Creek and help one of the trails making it easier for all to explore this vast peninsula. Trail maintenance* includes clearing brush and down trees, closing off sections of old trails.

*Physical requirements: Digging, bending, kneeling, and walking.   The terrain is fairly level but watch for downed branches and debris.

To Bring:  Skagit Land Trust will provide tools, gloves, snacks, and water to REFILL your water bottles. Hiking boots recommended, warm-weather and work-appropriate clothing. If you have your own favorite tools or gloves that you prefer to use feel free to bring them, otherwise we will bring all necessary tools.

Directions: From the South Skagit Hwy Park & Ride in Sedro-Woolley off of Route 9, take the S. Skagit Hwy 12 miles east. Turn left into the driveway 34183. Pull into the opened gate so cars are off of the highway. We will begin orientation near the bridge. Click here for a map. For directions click HERE.
