Samish Island Heron Nest Count and Tour

Jan 2012 28

10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Squires CE Property on Samish Island

All are invited to Skagit Land Trust's annual Samish Island Heron Count and Tour!

If you are interested in learning more about great blue herons, this is the perfect opportunity.  This heronry, located on one of Skagit Land Trust's conservation easements, is closed to the public for the entirety of the nesting season, so this is your best chance to come and observe.  We will start off with an educational walk and talk about herons.  After the talk, we will head out with pencils and paper to count the nests in the heronry - and if you've never seen a heronry before, it's quite the sight!  We'll have refreshments available for all after the count.  This should be a fun event for all ages!

If you are interested in helping us take care of this property, consider joining us for one of our ivy removal events in October or November!

Please RSVP for the tour to Regina at reginaw@skagitlandtrust.org, or by calling 428-7878.

The Community of Christ church has graciously agreed to let Skagit Land Trust use their parking lot for this event.  Their address is 11507 Scott Road, Bow, WA 98232-9334.  View a map and full directions here.

Carpooling may be available - please let us know if you're interested!

To get to the heronry, take Chuckanut Drive/WA-11 north from I-5.  Turn left at W Bow Hill Rd, and follow the main road through Edison as it turns left and becomes Main St, turns right and becomes Gilmore Ave, continues onto Farm to Market Rd, and then turns right at Bayview Edison Rd.  Turn left to stay on Bayview Edison Rd, and then continue straight onto Samish Island Rd.  Turn right at Scott Rd (a small road which comes up as Samish Island Rd takes a left onto Samish Island), and follow the signs to the back church parking lot.
