Annual Heron Nest Counts

Nov 2017 18

9:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Padilla Bay

It's already that time of year to gather groups of citizen science volunteers and head out for the Great blue heron annual nest counts in west Skagit County.

Please join us for a day of collecting data, learning about these mysterious creatures and exploring these unique habitats that are otherwise closed to the public; and enjoy a day in great company!

Nest counting will take place at two different locations where these large birds spend several months nesting and raising young in the spring and summer. In the fall, while the herons are away, staff and volunteers have the opportunity to enter these protected areas to record various details and data under the guidance of a local, expert heron biologist.

Volunteers should expect to be outside in rain or shine and moderate "hiking" conditions without marked trails. The events will only be cancelled if there are high winds as we will be looking up into the trees from below the canopies.
